What do you guys think about the draft this weekend? Who are you hoping your team picks? There's a lot of rumors out there with some good players available. There's been talk about the Eagles being able to possibly pick up Anquan Boldin AND Tony Gonzalez. That would really be something. If I had a chance to get Boldin, I'd do whatever it takes. That kid is a beast. Maybe the Broncos jump up and take Sanchez. My team is the Niners and I would love to get Sanchez but I think he'll be gone at No. 10

My team is the Rams and I hope we can address our needs with the OL.

Lions need everything right now (except reciever and kicker).

It seems like they're taking Stafford although I would trade down, if possible. If not, I would take Aaron Curry or Jason Smith
Why anyone would want the top pick is beyond me. By the way, Gonzalez was traded to the Falcons today.

I would take all of those options before Stafford. Once again, the Lions are not realizing you build around an offensive line. The fans know this, but the organization doesn't.

I love the draft. Hopefully my Texans get a shot at one of the top defensive players, probably a linebacker. We'll see.

The Vikings? At least they hit with Adrian Peterson. My other team is the Redskins and they haven't done something draft worthwhile since....let's see....

It's official for the Lions. Matthew Stafford is now the new QB.
Perhaps the curse of Bobby Layne is over. In 1958, the Lions traded QB Bobby Layne to Pittsburgh after winning the championship in 1957. Following the trade, Layne said the Lions wouldn't win for 50 years. Well, it's been 50 years, and what is really creepy is Stafford attended the same high school as Bobby Layne.

My team is the NY Jets and I love the attitude Rex Ryan has brought and I love the off season moves bringing in Bart Scott, Lito Sheppard and Jim Leanord. I think our defense will be great in 2009 with those key additions and on offense the Jets have a great o-line and running game with the Jones and Washington tandem. I'd like to see three things be addressed though:
1) QB: While I'm not satisfied with the position I think Clemens wouldn't be a horrible starter as he wouldn't be called upon to make many plays just to manage the game and I think he has enough help in front of him and behind him to do that but I'd like Mark Sanchez. Sanchez has worked a pro-style offense, he has accuracy, big arm and intelligence. He could come in and be the starter and no matter who the QB is for the Jets they won't have to be in a position to make plays on their own all the time. I would also be alright if the Jets swaped for Jason Cambell if Washington was to draft Sanchez, as J-Cam is a very solid NFL QB.
2) WR: With Coles gone the Jets are lacking in the WR corps. Cotchery is a good wideout but doesn't posses #1 WR skills, I think to complement him with a game breaking wideout like a Jeremy Macklin, Kenny Britt or Percy Harvin would be good. Harvin likely will fall in the draft due to his combine antics but he has game breaking speed and great hands and would be an awesome complement to Cotch.
3) DE: Sean Ellis is good but aging, Bryan Thomas showed last year he can get after the QB but he is aging as well and neither can fully take advantage of the single coverage they draw when Kris Jenkins is in the middle so a quicker and aggressive defensive end would make for a nice addition to the front line. I'm thinking 2nd round a guy like Michael Johnson who has the size and speed up front would be great but he could be gone, I like Connor Barwain out of Cinci. A guy who is a hybrid DE who can play OLB as well.

Stafford is a very talented player, but playing in Detroit will be rough unless something dramatic happens. Anyone else find it ironic that he signed a new record deal... in Detroit.... in this economy.... did I mention in Detroit?
My team is the Vikes. I have a few thoughts. From the reports I have read, the Vikes are leaning towards Percy Harvin. While I think he is a very explosive player, a Devin Hester type, I don't think he is worthy of a first round pick. He seems too small and also has off the field issues. I would rather have them draft a tackle as we really need one, maybe Britton, and address WR later on.
I would love it if we drafted Pat White, West Virginia QB, in the second round. He would be a perfect person to do the Wildcat with Adrian Peterson. Think about how many options we could have off of that? Scary. Also, if the Redskins end up getting Sanchez, I say we go after Campbell. He is a very solid young player who is in his contract year. We all know how they play in contract years.
GET BOLDIN if the asking price is a second round pick. Hell, if it is a first rounder, I will take it. He will be a perfect compliment to Berrian.
Other thoughts about the draft-
Raiders would be crazy to draft Maclin over Crabtree.
James Laurenitis will be a stud.
If Crabtree is taken out of top 5, he is a steal.
Where did so many good tackles come from? There will be like 7 tackles taken in the first round. Wow

Yeah, I think Crabtree is the best player available in this draft despite the little injury concern. I think if anybody has a chance to get Boldin, they have to. That kid is a beast and a legit #1 receiver. If the asking price was a 1st rounder, is any team who's drafting a WR going to get a better receiver than Boldin. They may turn out to be Pro Bowlers but you have a chance to go get a guy that already is

Care to explain why you don't think he will be a great player? Had he gone last year, he would have been a top 15 pick.

He's just another over-hyped Little 11 player. He doesnt strike me as much of an athlete and he's just over 6'1 and he's slow for his size. I dont see him ever being more than an average player in the NFL. Best case scenario, he's Mike Vrabel.

Al Davis is infatuated with speed so he picks the fastest guy at the combine. Bypassing Crabtree was a major mistake. Niners got a steal at #10. Now if we could only find a quarterback....

nice job at 12 picking moreno.... you have the worst defense. that left my boy orakpo for us, the skins to grab. ill take him and haynesworth and andre carter, fletcher, rogers, landry, horton any day. thank you broncos for proving you suck, and then picking ayers later on... shoulda taken orakpo, and moreno woulda been there later... if not take wells, hahahahaha, thanks

Great pick at #31 with the Cardinals nabbing Wells. They need some running back help and Wells should be a quality complement with James and Hightower

Im really liking the Patriots draft so far, but I mean do they ever have a bad draft? And I LOVE how the Jags are adding protection to Garrard, the biggest need in my opinion

How?
Butler is a good talent but Chung and Brace are guys that are more miss than hit. Especially with some of the other people who were on the board at the time. Ray Malaluga, James Laurenitus, Conor Barwain all could have been nicer additions. They really dropped the ball with Conor Barwain though, guy is a versatile OLB who can drop in and play DE when need be. Can also be great on special teams and could have stepped in right away and do many good things for New England. He would have been a perfect fit.

Percy Harvin and Phil Loadholt are great additions for the Vikings.
They need to focus on defense tomorrow tho.

I'll give the Patriots the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the draft. They always seem to select the right players who might not be the big names but always seem to fit their system

Day 2 just started and I like the pick of Greene by the Jets to open Round 3. Thomas Jones is clamoring for a new deal so the pick of Greene gives them some nice RB depth (if Jones stays put) or if something happens to Jones' situation, Greene could fill in for him. Plus, it sends Thomas Jones a message that we could move on without you

Greene is a very good back. I don't know why the Jets fans didn't like it. I though Greene was a better player than some of the RB's taken before him.

Now that it's over, what do you guys think of how your teams did?
My team is the 49ers and like most, I'm thrilled Crabtree fell to us at 10. They had other needs but you can't pass on him. Coffee is an okay back for a change of pace and I think the pick of Nate Davis is pretty decent as a QB prospect. He has a lot to learn but a 5th round pick on a guy who has his talent and was projected as a 2nd rounder during the season, isn't bad. Overall, pretty pleased

I know I said I wasn't thrilled about Harvin, I like the draft better now. If we would have taken Oher in the first round, there wouldn't have been anything for us in the second round. I think Loadholt is good, I don't know anything about him, but he is huge. Hopefully Harvin stays off the Mary Jane
